The Plaza Westport Neighborhood Association (PWNA) announced today that Board Member and Treasurer Matt Fuoco and Vice President Tom Davis appeared on KCUR 89.3 Kansas City Public Radio, joining Up To Date host Steve Kraske for an in-depth conversation about the proposed Master Planned Development (MPD) for the Country Club Plaza under new ownership by Gillon Property Group. The segment will be rebroadcast this evening at 7:00 PM on KCUR 89.3.

During the conversation, Fuoco and Davis outlined PWNA’s concerns about the scope of the MPD request, transparency regarding possible incentive discussions, and the broader implications for residents in and around the Plaza and Westport neighborhoods.

Fuoco noted that the Plaza holds a unique place in Kansas City’s identity and emphasized that residents deserve clear, accessible information about what redevelopment plans entail and how they may impact the community. He highlighted PWNA’s goal of ensuring that redevelopment is both thoughtful and accountable.

Davis explained that concerns over the height and massing of the proposed buildings remain significant among neighbors. He pointed out that, despite substantial public feedback, the revised MPD filing did not incorporate any reductions in building height, which has intensified worries about how the changes could alter the character and human scale of the Plaza.

The segment covered several important topics, including:

  • The overall scope and intentions of the proposed MPD by Gillon Property Group
  • Concerns regarding possible incentive requests that could impact taxpayers
  • Ongoing neighborhood concerns about building height, scale, and massing
  • The lack of height adjustments in the revised MPD submission despite extensive public input
  • The importance of strong neighborhood representation in decisions that will shape the Plaza’s future

The PWNA thanks KCUR and host Steve Kraske for providing a platform to elevate the community’s voice during a pivotal moment for the future of the Plaza.
